FRANÇOIZ Breut was born in December 1969 in Cherbourg, the city of umbrellas as immortalized in Jacques Demy’s movie Les Parapluies de Cherbourg. Inspired by her days working as an illustrator/cartoonist, she created a melancholic and quirky musical universe.
Now a surreal beauty of Bruxelles City, she first teamed with Dominique A, then with the best French artists of her generation including Yann Tiersen, Louise Attaque and Jeanne Cherhal. Francoiz also worked with Tucson’s folk duo Calexico, and usually prefers to sing in her native tongue.
Even though her unrelenting chant can sometimes resemble Françoise Hardy, mixed with Portishead, she continued to develop over the years and created her own pop language.
Between rock and electro, her beautiful music culminates on this sixth album simply called ‘Zoo’, where Françoiz makes the most of her husky voice, and telling stories that are more adventurous than ever.
