Eat, Stay Do: Megan Morton’s Paris

    20 October 2016

AS a frequent flyer, Sydney-based stylist and founder of The School, Megan Morton has had a long love affair with France (she tells us it stems from “It’s citizens, it’s canines, its clothes, it’s carbs and it’s cheeses!”) and even takes her school there on a chic trip at least once a year (visit The School’s excursion page for more information). Here, Megan opens up her little black book and shares some of her favourite sports in the French capital.

Where is your favourite place to travel to in France and why?

My heart belongs to 2 places – Paris and Fayence, which is a small village in the south. where my in chic in-laws live in the summer. Fayence has a local ice creamery, a cheese and fish monger and more than half a dozen boulangeries! No rich Russians, no western tolerances on local menus –just all the good, simple stuff!  Paris, as you well know, has everything! I like the hardware section of BVH through to L/Uniform. I love Paris for it’s top and bottom-end styling opportunities and it’s endless style chasers and dreamers.

How does Paris influence your work?

It addresses the common problem we all have of needing to take time to sit back and enjoy the really good things. Paris, both its centre and regionally, does this to the mind, heart and soul.

    EAT

I like Le Clown Bar for it’s natural wine list. I like Boots for proper morning coffees and breakfast and Au Passage is my current favourite for its truly incredible food.

    Le Clown Bar
    114 Rue Amelot, Paris,

    Boot Café
19 Rue du Pont aux Choux. Paris

    Au Passage
    1bis Passage Saint-Sébastien, Paris

    DO

Go order your self stationery with a local printer. You will have incredible printed pieces and a totally un-touristy, unique experience.  Printers are everywhere and make the perfect call-in.  Don’t Google or search the one who does famous addresses or the Kardashians, just use your design nose to sniff out a charming one. The local stock and paper lined envelopes are incredible.

Go to a bijoux pedigree gallery like Galerie Prodromus. They have a salon in their residence and it’s amazing, they curate incredible shows and it’s a genuine art experience.

    Galerie Prodromus
    46 Rue Saint-Sébastien, Paris

    SEE

Picasso Museum is for me a must as is the Natural History Museum in the 11th opposite the Grand Mosque tearooms. A massage and entry to the hamman in the tearooms has no peer and is the perfect jet lag cure. This for me, is the best afternoon you can have in Paris, Museum x 2, massage and hamman, all ending with sweet, sweet mint teas.

    Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle
    57 Rue Cuvier, Paris

    Grande Mosquée de Paris

    SHOP

Bon Marche for sugar. I love feature sugar and Bon delivers no less than about 26 options!

Bonton Kids for its black and white two-euro vintage photo booth! (Only at Filles de Cavalier store). What can you get for two euros that is half as good as this perfect Amelie souvenir moment. L/Uniform is a delight and wonderful to watch your order being stamped and constructed while you wait.
