WHERE do great ideas come from? Ask Noonie and Kate – they were travelling around Argentina when a chance encounter led to a life changing adventure. Now they run TheSuperCool – A Mobile Emporium full of hand-picked items for him, for her, for the littlies and everyone in between.
What excites you most about the SFSC festival?
This will be my first! I’m a SFSC virgin – quelle horreur! But over the years I’ve heard and read so many ace reviews – I’m really looking forward to going.
I love the Werribee Mansion grounds and I LOVE the SFSC compilations. Some of my fave singers are French, so it’s straight up damn exciting.
What should SFSC revellers bring on the day?
Definitely a picnic throw or Turkish towel (to sit on, or to use as a scarf if the weather turns).
Sunscreen is essential, especially if our famous Melbourne weather turns on the sunshine.
A French inspired hat. Perhaps a wide brimmed boater or a fedora or even a baker’s style cap.
Dancing shoes! By that I mean comfortable but cool. A grassy festival means relaxed chic.
Perhaps the most important thing to bring on the day is a chilled out vibe. From what I hear, this is a festival experience that does things right!
What does ‘cool’ mean to you?
Confidence and being unique. Owning your swag.
What are the Super Cool essentials for 2017?
A stylish superfast portable charger (meaning you can forget your traditional phone battery that dies way too fast). Any of the awesome design books from Berlin publisher; Gestalten (recent titles include: Wildside, Hinterland, Scandanavia Dreaming). Glass & bamboo reusable bottles by Fressko Bottles. You can brew tea, infuse fruit or have warm soup. Anything from organic cotton kids brand Phoenix & the Fox. I want this range in adult clothes!
Have you done something recently that wasn’t even remotely cool?
Recently? More like regularly – don’t we all though? While we curate brands and products we think are SuperCool; we certainly don’t think we are SuperCool all the time! But to give you one such example; I tripped over flat ground whilst eating pistachio gelato – tasty but definitely not a cool moment.
What inspires you?
Empowered people who follow their dreams; self-confidence; discovering something before its huge; travelling to exotic locations; reading and listening to great stories/storytellers and those who can make a real difference with their life…
Running a business can be a tough job. How do you stay energised and engaged?
Having time out with our three year old daughter Lola is always fun; going and doing fun kid things always brings out my inner child and that is a good way to get energised. I also believe in regular kinesiology appointments with my talented kinesi sister and lately, my partner and I have been listening to soothing sounds of the ocean when we go to sleep and it works! Engagement wise it’s easy – discovering new brands and products is always exciting to us – we still love the thrill of hunting for SuperCool things to fill our Emporium with and we love sharing new finds with our ace customers.
Why are the French so cool?
They have this nonchalance that is not about vanity (many stylish people I know are not traditionally beautiful). It’s a slightly dishevelled, imperfect way of being, of dressing and of not being a slave to trends but knowing what their own “thing” is – that makes them cool. A lot of French people have this well-rounded creativity which is so attractive: that slightly bohemian spirit makes them so cool.
